Mike McGuirk, assistant professor of chemistry and Nexus member, recently authored this opinion piece in The Hill on how chemical recycling could change the way we keep plastics out of landfills: We must change how we think to solve the plastic waste crisis | The Hill

McGuirk is a summer 2021 Nexus seed grant co-PI with NREL Inorganic & Materials Chemist, Daniel Ruddy, on their project, Towards the Efficient and Selective Depolymerization of Polyolefins: Fundamental Studies of Sulfated Zirconia, a Surprisingly Poorly Understood Industrial Catalyst. 

Dr. McGuirk has also been an advisor-mentor in the Materials REU program with Nexus and co-planner on some of our events, including the April 2022 workshop on Carbon Capture, Sequestration and Storage and the September 2021 I-West workshop at Mines.
