On Saturday, the 23rd of September, early in the day, the 2023-24 academic year RM MESA community of teacher advisors and Mines graduate and undergraduate student mentors, met on campus, to get to know each other and learn curriculum for this year’s MESA (Math, Engineering, Science Achievement) program.

On the agenda was a welcome and introductions, a reviewing of guidelines of the National Engineering Design Competition (MESA NEDC), a coding activity for mentors and advisors, (presented by industry volunteer and Google software engineer, Chris Keller), a teacher STEM kit demo by Mines faculty Electrical Engineering Professor Mike Wakin.

Prof. Wakin developed STEM learning kits for teachers as part of his National Science Foundation project’s outreach, which are available for teachers. There was a Q&A with Mines admissions staff and a panel discussion with past student mentors and teacher advisors, to round out the day.

Lots of rich content culminated in a casual social hour in the afternoon, where the RM MESA group got to know each other a little better.

After a national championship win in 2022-23, energy is running high for RM MESA! Stay tuned to see what this year will bring and more student success stories!
