For the past year a half, Nexus has been working on several large interstate initiatives devoted to the clean energy economy. One of those is a regional collaborative focused on the U.S. Department of Energy Hydrogen Hub. The purpose of this regional coalition is to compete for a portion of the $8 billion allocated in the 2021 Infrastructure and Investment Act, towards regional energy hubs.

The Western Inter-States Hydrogen Hub (WISHH) executive committee formalized their alliance in February 2022, with a memorandum of understanding of representatives selected by each state’s governor. The technical expertise and research work, has been contracted out to the Rocky Mountain Alliance for Next Generation Energy (RANGE), a non-profit corporation of experts from regional Universities, federal labs and state governments. Nexus co-director Ryan Richards works on the RANGE committee. Other researchers from Mines and NREL, contribute to it.

The next next phase is gathering feedback and drafting plans towards a clean energy economy in the West. Input is needed from industry, local communities, researchers and other stakeholders to evaluate projects and partners that may also participate in the application. Please complete the survey on a western states hydrogen hub, here and share this historic opportunity to be involved in a clean energy future!
