Help judge our high school student engineering design competition!
For the third year in a row (second in-person, post-Covid), Rocky Mountain MESA (Math, Engineering, Science Achievement) will put on the State Engineering Design Competition & Jamboree, on Saturday, April 29th, 2023. RM MESA is the regional chapter of the MESA USA, based within the Nexus at Colorado School of Mines.
Approximately 25 teams of high school students, their teacher-advisor and Mines graduate student mentors, will descend on campus for the competition, a design showcase, feats of engineering, a club vendor displays by Mines students, Admissions information and food, prizes and more! The State Champions will earn a chance to compete at the National engineering design competition where last year’s RM MESA team placed third.

Get these students’ projects judged and reviewed! If you are a part of the Mines community or supporter, or a STEM professional, a Mines University student or just have STEM in your blood and brain, please consider volunteering to judge.
For the engineering design competition, student high school teams have identified an individual or group who experiences some type of inequity (i.e., a user). Using a microprocessor as the key component of the design, teams will employ human-centered design practices to engineer a solution. Teams will also prepare an accompanying design brief, academic poster, prototype pitch, and participate in a technical interview/presentation. For each of these four categories, there is a specific number of judges needed for it.
We need judges for in-person day of event competition, and in advance judging. Judges are needed for about 3 hours on Saturday, April 29th event for Technical Interview and/or Prototype Pitch.
Advanced Judges are needed, and will judge at their computers, anytime April 21-28 for the Design Brief and/or Academic Poster portions. This will be done at your own pace during that time and can take anywhere from 1-3 hours.
