Alexei Milkov, Professor of Geology and Geological Engineering at Colorado School of Mines and Principle Investigator of a current Nexus Seed grant, will be honored at the 2021 AAPG Annual Convention and Exhibition, May 23-26 in Denver, Colorado. Prof. Milkov will be presented the Robert R. Berg Outstanding Research Award, to honor a “singular achievement in petroleum geoscience research”.
Prof. Milkov is currently partnering with NREL scientists Greg Rhodes and Ian Warren on a study to develop a new method to assess probability of success of geothermal wells based on the geological data and subsurface models, through the Nexus Seed grant program. The Nexus grant jump-starts this new collaboration between Mines and NREL, and adopts method of risk assessment from oil & gas exploration to geothermal energy exploration to reduce reliance on non-renewable energy sources.
